The Wildlife & Environment Society of SA (Wessa) has announced the launch of the National Department of Environmental Affairs’ Youth Environmental Services (Yes) Programme across the Northern Cape and Free State. This two-year programme is creating 540 year-long learnership positions in the environmental and ecotourism sectors for unemployed, disadvantaged youth between the ages of 18 and 35.
The programme will see youth participants actively engaged in community work through being placed with a local host organisation, where they will be mentored while gaining marketable work and life skills training. The participants will receive a daily stipend to enable their participation on the training programme.
“While the Yes Programme is focused on community services within the environmental sector, the programme will also stimulate biodiversity as well as business activity at the identified host organisations, which include game reserves, hotels, enviro consultancies, recyclers, animal care facilities, government departments and NGOs,” said Wessa Yes Programme manager, Morgan Griffiths.
Wessa is calling on graduates and matriculants who are interested in serving their community while participating in this exciting work-integrated learning and accredited skills training opportunity, to apply at www.wessa.org.za. Applications close Friday 5 January 2018.
Those interested can also visit them on Facebook or Twitter. “We’re running the National Department of Environmental Affairs’ Youth Environmental Services (Yes) Programme in 2018 aimed at disadvantaged, unemployed youth. If you’re aged between 18 and 35, live in the Northern Cape or Free State, and are keen to participate in an exciting work-integrated learning and accredited skills training opportunity while serving your community, we’d love to hear from you,” added Griffiths.
