A 38-year-old woman has been sentenced to two years direct imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years for child neglect.
According to Free State police spokesperson, Maselela Langa, a complainant called the police to report about a women neglecting her children.
“On Wednesday, 7 August 2024, the complainant alleged that he received a call from an anonymous person about children being left alone in a house while the mother was at a tavern. The complainant went to the house where he found two minors alone, aged four and one,” Langa mentioned.
“Efforts by the community to locate the mother yielded no success. They reported the matter to the police and the mother was traced and arrested for child neglect,” Langa further stated.
