With her passion for empowering women, Retshepile Khuto recently hosted the exclusive Women in Conversation event for the first time. The event aims to encourage young women and teach self-development, independence and empowerment.

According to Khuto, it was also a platform for women to look elegant and to celebrate themselves. The event is the brainchild of Khuto, who in an interview with Bloemfontein Courant said it aims to break barriers that the girl child is born into, remove norms that belittle women, and to break the glass ceiling in male dominated industries.

“There is this invisible barrier that prevents women from obtaining senior positions in certain industries just because they are women. That needs to change. The core focus of this event is to discover and develop young upcoming women in business by mentoring and uplifting them,” she said.

The prestige event had a list of speakers, which included food blogger, recipe developer and founder of The Lazy Chef, Makhiba Modupe; founder of the Kitchen New Gym, Yena Mgobhozi, and Khuto herself who shared her story and journey. According to Khuto, the message of the evening was that being a woman is not easy. Women go through many challenges. However, they need to be there for each other.

“We need to celebrate and pat ourselves on the shoulder for where we have been and where we are now, and that we are still pursuing each day. That it is okay not to feel like you don’t have it together, everything has its time in life. Also that as women we need to believe in our dreams and actually take action. We are constantly afraid to fail because of what the world perceives us to be. The purpose is for us as women to stop living our lives as the world expects us to do, but rather at our own pace,” concluded Khuto.

The event took place at 59 Plenty on 11 December 2020. Khuto said that members of the public can be on the lookout for much more of these events. They can visit her social media accounts for updates at srl_khuto, sol_boutique , wic__events on Instagram and Retshepile Ray Khuto on Facebook.
