A woman has been seriously injured when a bakkie and a car collided on the N6 in South Park, Bloemfontein, paramedics said on Saturday.

ER24 paramedics, along with Life Healthcare and Bloemfontein fire services, arrived on the scene at 4.30pm on Friday afternoon to find the bakkie and car in the middle of the road, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“A woman was found lying inside the light motor vehicle. Bloemfontein fire services had to use specialised rescue equipment to remove the doors of the vehicle, allowing paramedics access to the patient.”

Once freed, paramedics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained numerous injuries and was in a serious condition. Medics treated the woman and provided her with pain relief medication before she was transported to Life Rosepark Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the bakkie, fortunately, escaped injury, Meiring said.
