30-year-old Thami Victoria Mokoena has made a brief appearance before the Magistrate’s Court on Monday 28 September 2020. This after she was accused of fatally stabbing her parner on the evening of Saturday 26 September 2020.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, said it is alleged that the deceased, together with Mokoena, were having drinks on the day of the incident when an argument broke out between the two and they thereafter decided to go to their place. “After the witness had left, both Mokoena and the deceased fought again and Mokoena allegedly threw the deceased with a side plate on the left eye which cause him to bleed profusely,” said Makhele.

Police were called to the scene where they found the deceased in a pool of blood. He was declared dead on the scene. The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Lucas Magwagwa.

According to Makhele, the suspect was arrested on the same day of the murder and appeared in court yesterday. She was released on warning and is expected to appear in court again on Friday 30 October 2020.

Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Baile Motswenyane, has urged that victims of domestic violence report such incidents as soon as possible. “Those who feel uncomfortable in their intimate relationships should seek help as soon as possible as toxic relationships often lead to unwanted deaths,” he said.
