The racing sensation from Bloemfontein, Stuart White, has traded his Bentley in for a Lamborghini ahead of the new GT3 season in Europe.
Last season White competed for Bentley in the GT World Challenge Europe and it was a tough one for the Free Stater, but 2022 promises to be a much stronger one for the 20-year-old.
White has joined the much more consistent Swiss-based team, Emil Frey Racing, who is one of the top-three teams in the series. As it stands, he will only be competing for them for this season, but that can easily be extended with solid performances on the track.
Recently the speedster did some testing with his team in Catalunya, Spain, and while there he got to meet the legendary nine-time MotoGP world champion, Valentino Rossi, who retired from the sport last year.
White will partake in the official testing this week at the iconic and world-renowned Paul Ricard Circuit in Le Castellet, France, on 7 and 8 March.
White told Bloemfontein Courant that he looks forward to the challenge and is delighted to be racing for one of the best teams in Europe.
“My deal is with Emil Frey in partnership with Lamborghini Squadra Corsa – just for the season at this stage. I’m hoping as the season continues the performances are good enough to have that extended.
“The team is a very well-known team in Europe and especially in the GT World Challenge Europe winning three out of the five Silver Cup races last year and finishing third overall.”
The Finnish driver, Konsta Lappalainen, will be White’s teammate, and a third driver will be announced soon.
The first race of the season will be held from 1 to 3 April at the legendary Grand Prix circuit, Imola, just north of Bologna in Italy. – MORGAN PIEK
