What we need to be saved

Ignorance is a killer. God says it best through the prophet Hosea when he says: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”- Hosea 4v6.
This truth is clearly visible today. Many people are on their way to eternal death and torment because they believe that only shallow faith is required in order for them to enter the kingdom of heaven. The knowledge that many church people who are only “Christian” in name need in order to inherent heaven, are basics that they seem to have missed because they heard a gospel that lacked a foundation.
I’ve sat in services where people are assured of eternal life if they simply pray a prayer in which they confess Jesus. Confession is important, but that’s not the only requirement. Believing in your heart is also needed (Romans 10v9).
Assuring someone that they are saved based on their confession alone is not biblical, it is deceptive. Preachers should not ignore the basic knowledge concerning salvation because we are not preaching to money, cars or clothes, but to people who will experience hell if they are not taught the necessary knowledge required for salvation.
So are basics important? Yes, there are truths that people need to know in order for them to be saved, and then there are some that they don’t. Let’s take a look at what you should believe to be saved:
1. Jesus is God (Romans 8v24).
2. You are saved by grace and not your good works (Ephesians 2v8-9).
3. Salvation is only possible through Jesus (John 14v6).
4. Jesus physically rose from the dead (Romans 10v9).
Now this is not an exhaustive list of the doctrines which should be gripped by our faith. There are other things we need to believe as Christians to be saved. Start to study the scriptures and start reading books written by men of God concerning these topics.
