Westdene mother and child hijacked

One of two allegded hijackers has been arrested in connection with a hijacking and kidnapping in Bloemfontein last night. Free State police spokesperson Wendy Nkabi says the Lesotho national, aged 26, was arrested in the early hours of this morning at the Ficksburg Border Post after police received a tip-off. Nkabi says the victim and her four-year old son were at the gate of their house in Westdene when two men driving a white Nissan Sentra stopped behind the vehicle.

One suspect pointed a firearm at the woman and forcefully instructed her and the child to get in the other car. The armed suspect drove the woman’s car while the other vehicle followed. The suspects then drove the woman and child to a nearby ATM where they withdrew money from her account and dropped the pair at Phahameng location.

The suspect is due in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
