The VKB Knights batman, Andries Gous, has high hopes for the upcoming 2020/21 cricket season.
The Knights will enter the new season with a somewhat refreshed look after the head coach, Allan Donald, has managed to secure a whole host of new players for the campaign.
Gous told Bloemfontein Courant that Donald has been able to put together a squad which he feels is well-balanced.
“We have quite a few new faces and I am excited about this. I’m sure that everyone else is as well.
“The conditions of our home fields in Bloemfontein and Kimberley really suit the way these new guys play their game.
“I’m especially excited about the bowling department and I look forward to seeing what they will do this season.
“We have a really balanced squad this season, and hopefully we can make the step-up this season and make a name for ourselves and the Knights.”
The talking point at the moment is the Knights’ entry into the 2020 Mzansi Super League after being allocated a city-based franchise for the tournament.
Gous added that he is excited by the news that Bloemfontein will experience MSL T20 action for the first time, and he wants to be a part of the lucrative tournament.
“It is very exciting to hear that the Knights also got a franchise in the MSL T20.
“It is a massive goal of mine to play in the MSL, and I am sure that all the guys who have missed out in the previous seasons feel the same way.
“Hopefully most of the guys get drafted and will be able to showcase their talent in a great tournament.” – MORGAN PIEK
