Weather service warns of severe thunderstorms

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms with possible flooding over parts of the country on Wednesday.

The thunderstorms are expected to affect Gauteng, the Western Bushveld of Limpopo, Western Highveld of Mpumalanga, the northeastern parts of the North West and the extreme north-eastern parts of the Free State.

Forecaster Kholofelo Mahlangu says the thunderstorms are expected to hit these areas late in the afternoon.

“The possible impacts are temporary low-level flooding, strong winds, which is expected to cause some structural damages in informal settlements, and disruption of traffic due to reduced visibility,” adds Mahlangu.
