GALOOME SHOPANE The South African Students Congress, SASCO has asked the minister of higher education, Blade Nzimande to intervene into the Goldfields FET College in Welkom.
Sasco’s provincial chairperson, Mzwandile Thakgudi says as a student representative body they are still against the 80% attendance policy in order for students to qualify for an exam.
Thakgudi says they are not sure when the minister will come, but they have raised a sense of urgency regarding the matter.
“The minister promised that he will be in Welkom as the minister of higher education and his delegates to deal with the matters,” says Thakgudi.
Students at the FET in Welkom ended a month long strike two weeks ago, regarding their dissatisfaction with the 80% attendance policy and troubles with NASFS loans.
The college’s director, Lynette Fourie says the attendance policy still stands.
