Among the questions heard during the transformation of Heritage Landscape Consultative meeting included why white people should be forgiven for apartheid when many people in the country are still experiencing inequality, poverty and un-levelled socio-and economic standings.
However, present at the meeting. representing the Democratic Alliance was the party’s Chief Whip in the Free State Provincial Legislature was David van Vuuren who says they are against apartheid and what it stood for and that instead people should follow the right processes in discussions around transformation and heritage.
Furthermore Freedom Front Plus provincial Legislature member Wynand Wessels also said it’s important for individuals to reference the correct facts regarding historical matters of the country.
He added that instead of focusing on changing street names, government should prioritise naming nameless streets in areas like Thaba Nchu and Bothsabelo as those are the places the poor bear the brunt of government’s decisions.
