Bloemfontein. – The department of correctional services declined to comment this morning on whether two of the Waterkloof Four will be released from custody as its 72 hour timeframe to investigate their alleged party in jail expires today.
Spokesperson Manelisi Wolela would only confirm that the investigation continues. Christoff Becker and Frikkie du Preez were rearrested on Sunday, four days after being released on parole, after cellphone footage of the pair partying and allegedly drinking alcohol in the Kgosi Mampuru prison was posted on YouTube.
The Correctional Services Act allows for a precautionary re-detention of up to 72 hours until investigations are completed. Wolela would not say how far the investigation is, merely indicating that any warders found to be involved in the incident will be punished.
