Water supply interruptions expected in the City



Residents of Mangaung Metro can expect various water supply interrupions as the water supply utility Bloemwater is experiencing raw water pumping challenges at Welbedacht water treatment works.

According to spokesperson of the Municipality Qondile Khedama, the issue started last night, and is linked to lightening experienced in the area on Sunday, 05 March. “This has affected levels of main reservoirs ie Brandkop, De Hoek and Uitkyk that are supplied by the mainline from Welbedacht to Bloemfontein,” said Khedama.

He further explains that Bloemwater assures the City they are working around the clock to resolve the challenge at the plant.

“Water quality will not be comprised, although water quantities may be reduced, which may lead to interruptions and it is estimated that repair work will take approximately 36 hours,” said Khedama.

According to Khedama water tankers will be dispatched to areas that will be affected by interruptions.

“We will regularly update residents on the progress of water restoration and the Mangaung Metro apologises for the inconvenience this may cause,” said Khedama.
