Chaos erupted during a Council Meeting of the Mangaung Metro Municipality in Bloemfontein today. The EFF in the Free State told Bloemfontein Courant that its members were manhandled during a council meeting in an attempt to remove them from the building. According to the EFF’s Paulnita Marais female security guards were called in to escort party members out of the building after they demanded a definite outcome of the motion of no confidence against Mangaung Metro Municipality Executive Mayor Olly Mlamleli.
The motion was put forward in a council sitting in August. The party’s Paballo Poone-Rankholo said that the speaker, Mxolisi Siyonzana failed to honour the motion. “The speaker was supposed to provide reasons as to why the motion was not to be decided over secret ballot. However, the motion of no confidence was not on the agenda today,” she said. – Nomaqhawe Mtebele
