Warrant of arrest after rape suspect evades trial

A warrant of arrest has been issued for 28-year-old Leonard Davids. This after he failed to show up in the Welkom court.

It is alleged that Davids raped a 22-year-old victim on 1 November 2015. The alleged incident took place at about 02:45 when the victim was on her way to a local tavern. Davids, who goes by the Nickname Charkie was arrested and appeared in the Welkom Magistrate’s court and was released on a warning.

The suspect, who was supposed to appear in court again, has since “vanished”, according to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele.

“The last address that the investigation team had was house number 2435, Bronville, Welkom and the house was visited several times by the team but all in vain,” said Makhele.

Police has requested the assistance of community members to help with the current location of the fugitive.
