After 15 years of struggling to correct his identity documents, Vuyo Edward Ndobela can finally celebrate a new chapter in his life. Today, he proudly holds his rectified ID, a milestone he said brings him joy and relief.
With his surname officially changed from Liphoko to Ndobela, he looks forward to marrying his fiancé in December and uniting his family under their shared name. While he acknowledges that many others may still face similar challenges, Ndobela is pleased to have closed this difficult chapter of his life.
“Identity is very important, not only for me, but for everyone else. To know where you come from and who you are, is critical to one’s life. It shapes you and it moulds you into what you eventually want to become. Knowing that you are achieving things under the rightful surname is very important,” he said.
