A 42-year-old suspect has been arrested after the body of his girlfriend (41) was found on Dewetsdorp Road earlier this month.
According to Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli, a 32-year-old male received a missed call from his elder sister’s cellphone around midnight on 17 June 2024. He tried to return her call but to no avail.
“He suspected that something was wrong and went to look for her at her place in Rocklands but could not find her. Her vehicle was also not in the yard. The young brother reported his sister missing at the Kagisanong Police Station and a search party was launched,” Kareli said.
Bloemspruit police members received information later on 17 June, at about 06:45, about the body of a female aged between 37 and 40 which was allegedly dumped next to Dewetsdorp Road with multiple injuries.
“Members rushed to the scene and discovered that the body was that of the woman who was reported missing earlier at the Kagisanong Police Station. The search for a missing person was changed to the search for a murder suspect,” Kareli said.
Kareli further added that information led members to the house in Phase 2, where the deceased’s boyfriend is staying. The deceased’s vehicle was found in the boyfriend’s yard. Various attempts were made for the boyfriend to exit the house but to no avail.
“Park Road tactical response team members were summoned to the scene and the team tactically accessed the premises and found the boyfriend hiding under the bed. He was arrested for murder. Further investigations will shed light on what actually happened,” Kareli concluded.
According to Kareli, furious members of the community were gathered outside in an attempt to attack the suspect, but he was safely escorted to the back of the police vehicle and taken to custody.
