After the brutal and fatal attack of a 28-year-old victim by four American Pit Bulls, the police arrested a man under the Animal Matters Amendment Act No. 40 of 1993.

According to police spokesperson Thabo Covane, investigators found the man at his house on Tuesday 18 June at around 21:00.

“He will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 20 June 2024,” said Covane.

Bloemfontein Courant previously reported that a young woman was attacked and killed by four American Pit Bulls in Namibia Square, Mangaung.

According to Covane, at around 15:00 on Monday 17 June, a case of culpable homicide was opened at the Mangaung Police Station after police received a report about a female who was attacked by four dogs near Bloemfontein.

“The police rushed to the scene and found the 28-year-old victim lying on the ground, severely bitten by the dogs. The injuries were mostly on the lower parts of the body. Members at the scene had to put down three of the dogs, while the other was taken to safety with its puppies by the local SPCA,” said Covane.

He added that the 28-year-old victim was declared dead on the scene by EMS personnel.
