The registration process for senior students started on January 8 and is scheduled to take place until February 23.
A welcoming ceremony for thousands of first-year students also took place this past Saturday. Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Francis Petersen, earlier told OFM News while some faculties are full, the university is aiming to have 8 000 first-year students registered. Accommodation is, however, no longer available, at both the Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa campuses. Petersen further said that the university has been working with several stakeholders to ensure they effectively implement President Jacob Zuma’s free education announcement. Meanwhile, the SRC president Asive Dlanjwa says although the registration process is going well, there have been a few challenges.
Classes are scheduled to start on February 19.
“A lot of students that have been admitted are pitching up. On the first day of registration, certain programmes were already full. Mind you, registration only ends on the 23rd, but on Monday the education faculty were already full. You have thousands of students from across the country that has showed up to register, only to find that some programmes are full,” says Dlanjwa.
