UFS launch the IdeaStart Accelerator Programme

Meet Faith Leburu. She is a first-year Communication Science student at the University of the Free State (UFS) and is setting up a business strategy for her idea to have a delivery service for people who receives chronic medication from hospitals and clinics. A business she is starting from The Garage.

Maryann Moshoeshoe is an aspiring writer of children’s books. Her venture, Crafted Ink, is also run from The Garage.

There is also Elaine Smith with her business, Farmfun Adventures, that offers outdoor and farm experiences to school children. This too, is run from The Garage.

According to spokesperson René-Jean van der Berg, The Garage programme is the new bustling hub on the Bloemfontein Campus, where young entrepreneurs with exceptional ideas come together to set up and run their business ideas.

“It is situated in the basement of the Benito Khotseng Building, the IdeaStart Accelerator Programme consists of students benefiting from the Office: Student Ideas. This office, or The Garage as it is dubbed, was created as part of the Division Innovation and Business Development, which falls under the Directorate for Research Development,” she says.

The IdeaStart Accelerator will be launched on Friday at CR Swart Auditorium, Bloemfontein Campus.
