The University of the Free State campus is set for the first ever TRICampus TT triathlon event which will be taking place on Saturday morning.
The time trial event welcomes all ages to compete and will feature three separate races during the course of the morning.
The first race is an under 15 event and will see the competitors competing in a 200m pool swim (4 laps), a 6km mountain bike ride (1 lap) and a 2km campus run (2 laps). This will cost R150 per competitor with a TSA licence, plus an additional R30 extra for a TSA day licence.
The second race in the under 19 event, which will be a bit further with the competitors taking part in a 300m pool swim (6 laps), a 12km mountain bike ride (2 laps) and a 3km campus run (3 laps), will cost R200 per competitor with a TSA licence, plus an additional R30 extra for a TSA day licence.
The third and final race of the day in for the over 18s and is the longest race of the day. This will feature a 400-m pool swim (8 laps), an 18km mountain bike ride (3 laps) and a 4km campus run (4 laps) and will cost R200 per competitor with a TSA licence, plus an additional R30 extra for a TSA day licence.
“It’s a campus race, a short and safe swim in the swimming pool, great mountain bike route and a campus run between all the old buildings of the the University of the Free State,” says the organiser, Antonie Botha.
“TriCampus Time Trail is a unique sporting event where teams or individuals are inducted in the glory of Triathlon, where competitors start 15 seconds apart.
“The fastest during the race become the TRiCampus King. The are R500 vouchers from Kloppers up for grabs for each male and female winner in each race.
“Live results and a live Facebook feeds will be displayed on monitors. Lots of fun is to be expected”, Botha concluded.
Each athlete starts 15 seconds apart. Competitors can enter as an individual, individual relay team or banner group relay team.
The under 15 race starts at 8:00, followed by the under 19’s at 8:30 and seniors at 9:00.
