Non-provisional taxpayers are reminded to submit their returns on time as the tax season deadline is fast approaching.
According to SARS spokesperson, Sandile Memela, the closing date for non-provisional taxpayers will be on Friday, 24 November 2017, while provisional taxpayers, who will be submitting their returns through eFilling, have until 31 January 2017.
Memela revealed that so far there has been an increase of over R 1 300 000 from the returns filed this year, compared to the same time last year.
The number of income tax returns received to date has increased to 4 561 877 million. A total of 52.50% were filed at branches; and 47.20% via eFiling.
Memela says that while many still prefer to file via a branch, more and more taxpayers are beginning to use eFiling, while only 0.30% of the population continues to file their returns manually and via the post office.
“For those who will go to a branch to file, note that branches will still continue to operate on a daily basis from 08:00 to 16:00 during the week. Taxpayers filing their tax returns at a branch can expect an average queue time of 78 minutes, and an average service time of 8 minutes,” he said.
He further urges those with access to the internet to make use of the eFiling method as it is the easiest and quickest, and is also available on a 24-hour basis.
