Two to appear in court for human trafficking

On 24 August 2022, the accused Christian Chukwuebuka Ezeonyekwere (38) and his co-accused Samantha Campher (24) will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court for a formal bail application.

According to the spokesperson of the South African Police Services’ (SAPS) Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation or the Hawks, Christopher Singo, a 19-year-old was recruited via social media by Camphor on 6 August 2022. She was then offered a job at the mall in Vanderbijpark.

“She was taken from Hospital Park in Bloemfontein. It is alleged that she was given drugs and used as a sex worker. She then managed to talk and send her location to her mother, who then informed the police. The local police in Vanderbijpark followed up on the information and arrested Ezeonyekwere on 9 August 2022. The suspect appeared in court on 11 August 2022.”

The 19-year-old girl has since been re-united with her family.

The formal bail applications of both Camphor and Ezeonyekwere have been postponed to Wednesday 24 August.
