Two bodies of two teenage boys aged 18 and 13 years old were found over the weekend after a fire ravaged their shack in Thabong in Welkom in the Free State.
Police spokesperson, Malebo Khosana, says the incident occurred on Saturday 29 June 2019 just before midnight. He says one of the neighbours in that area alleges that they only heard a noise from outside and it was later discovered that the shack was burning and fire personnel were called to the scene. He adds that the circumstances surrounding the whereabouts of the victims’ parent will form part of the investigation. Khosana says the matter is under investigation.
Meanwhile, the police in Thabong also opened an inquest docket after the body of a one-year-old toddler was found in a deep freezer of a neighbour’s house on Thursday 27 June 2019. Khosana said this startling discovery followed after the toddler’s mother had reported her son missing on Wednesday 26 June 2019. He said soon after the report the police conducted a search and the child was not found.
“One of the neighbours, who was assisting with the search, looked in a deep freezer in one of the outside buildings used for church services in her yard, where she discovered the body of the toddler.” The police have since appealed to the community not to take matters in their own hands and let the law take its course.
