Two suspects wanted for carjacking and sexual assault

A case of carjacking, kidnapping and sexual assault is being investigated by police in Thabong, Welkom after a couple was kidnapped on 16 June 2020 at around 16:00.

According to a statement by the office of the provincial commissioner in the Free State, it is alleged that the 19-year-old complainent was sitting in his car with his 18-year-old girlfriend when the incident took place.

A silver Toyota Tazz with an unknown registration number approached and parked behind the complainant’s vehicle. One suspect got out of the Tazz, confronted the complainant and ordered him to get out of the car. The suspect then got into the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

“After struggling to start the engine, the suspect ordered the victim to show him how it is done. The second suspect, armed with a firearm, approached the vehicle and sat next to the complainant’s girlfriend. The complainant was forced back into the vehicle.

“The suspects then drove off with both victims still in the vehicle. They drove until they reached the Phumlani Cemetery, where the complainant’s girlfriend was indecently assaulted. It was during this time that the complainant managed to run away screaming for help,” said Brigadier Makhele.

According to him, the suspects then fled the scene in the complainant’s vehicle, a white Toyota Corolla with registration number HHJ282FS.
