Two people attacked on N3 near Harrismith

The Free State police are investigating a case of attempted armed robbery after two people, including an elderly man, were attacked on the N3 outside Harrismith on Tuesday morning.

Police spokesperson, Sinah Mpakane, tells OFM News the incident happened at around 04:30 yesterday morning. She says two victims were heading from Welkom to Harrismith. Just as they were about to enter the N3, a white BMW stopped in front of them blocking them. The occupants of that car came out with steel pipes. They broke the window on the driver’s side and instructed them to open but they fought back.

She says the suspects continued to smash the windscreen trying to get hold of a bag in the car, but the driver continued to press the hooter to disturb them. They eventually left without taking anything but both the driver and the elderly man are injured. She says no arrests have been made yet.

The case is going to be transferred to Roadside SAPS for further investigation.

It was alleged that the victims were attacked at a filling station on the N3 while attempting to fill up with petrol. Mpakane did not comment on those allegations.
