Two men sentenced for rape

The Free State police, along with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), have successfully convicted two men for separate incidents of housebreaking and rape in the areas of Tseki and Phuthaditjhaba.

According to Free State police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring, the first incident took place in October 2021.

“On 3 October 2021, at about 03:45, the 19-year-old girl from Disaster Park near Bluegumbosch was sleeping with her mother and siblings when they heard someone entering their home through the window. The accused threatened to rape her mother if he did not get money from her and then he raped her daughter (19). The accused was arrested on 5 October 2021 and charged with housebreaking and rape,” Mophiring mentioned.

The perpetrator, 27-year-old Aaron Malgas, was then found guilty by the Phuthaditjhaba Regional Court and sentenced to 22 years direct imprisonment for housebreaking and rape.

Another incident occurred in December, Mophiring said. “On 3 December 2023, at about 13:00, the 17-year-old girl from Chris Hani Park was home alone when the accused person, Mpheng Elias Mofokeng (34), asked the whereabouts of her uncle. She told him that he wasn’t home; the accused saw an opportunity and raped her. The accused person was arrested and charged with rape. He was found guilty by the Phuthaditjhaba Regional Court on 10 February 2025 and sentenced to 12 years direct imprisonment.”
