Two foreign nationals were arrested on 23 November 2020 by the Selosesha Tactical Response Team (TRT) after they had received information about a hijacked truck.
The arrest that took place in Botshabelo in the Free State occurred around 16:00 and it is alledged that the truck, which belongs to a Chinese businessman, was hijacked whilst on route on the N8 between Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu. The truck was carrying groceries with an estimated value of R270 000.
According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, the owner of the truck reported the truck missing after he could not get hold of the driver and his crew. “Through the help of the vehicle tracking company, the truck was traced to Botshabelo Section H,” said Makhele.
The suspects were found busy offloading the truck whereupon the Selosesha TRT arrested two foreigners aged 32 and 35 and charged them with truck hijacking.
The suspects are soon to appear in the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court for truck hijacking and for violating the Immigration Act. Investigations continue.
