Bloemfontein was proud to notice two of its artists featuring on the small screen during last night’s South African Music Awards on SABC 1.

Former Kovsie Fm DJ, Similo Mdutyulwa, better known to fans as Smash Afrika, appeared as one of the SAMA23 show hosts. Afrika presented the award for Best Dance Album alongside popular Isibaya actress, Nomzamo Mbatha.

Social media went into a frenzy with many who knew Afrika from his days in Bloem, thanking him for representing the Rose City.

Afrika now works for Y-FM, a radio station in Johannesburg and has a morning breakfast show that boasts over 600 000 listeners.

The late Thato Booysen, aka. Dj BlueBoy Bond, also made a feature on the popular awards show last night. In a bittersweet moment, Boysen’s name appeared during the award show’s tribute to musicians and artists who have passed away.

Booysen died after he was shot four times at Street Corner Braai, a pub and grill spot in Bochabela location, Bloemfontein, on 16 October 2016. Booysen’s murder accused, Lehlohonolo Moloeloe is set to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court sometime in June 2017.
