Two behind bars for murder


Two suspects aged between 30 and 35 are behind bars after they allegedly shot and killed a 60-year-old African male near his house in Section J, Botshabelo. On Thursday 6 April at about 21:05 60-year-old Ntala Michael Koalane arrived at his home in Botshabelo. As he was about to open his gate an unknown male allegedly fired at him twice. He was wounded in his head and shoulder.
Community members who heard the gun shots managed to stop the two suspects who were found in possession of an unlicensed pistol. The police were called to the scene.
Koalane was declared dead on the scene by emergency medical services. The police apprehended the two suspects for allegations of murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The two are expected to appear before the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court soon. A pistol, empty magazine and three cartridges were collected at the crime scene.
At this stage the motive for the killing is unknown and investigations are still underway.
The Free State Police Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Lebeoana Tsumane, advised community members not to confront armed suspects, but rather inform the police to respond.
