Strengthening of the Free State Health financial policies, internal controls and monitoring on how expenditure is done will be some of the main issue to ensure a financial management turnaround within the department’s financial woes.
This is according to provincial health MEC Benny Malakoane. He was speaking during parliamentary committee meeting this week in Bloemfontein. Malakoane said he will supply parliament with a full turnaround plan within fourteen days.
“We have solved all those misallocations and miscalculations that had been done including the inadequacy of the funds that the department had. That’s one aspect of the departmental turnaround plan,” he said.
Malakoane is amongst few MEC’s in the province, who attends portfolio committee meetings of the provincial legislature, he emphasized that his attendances are important.
“Only politicians account to the legislature while governmental officials account to me and not the legislature. That is why I always come when portfolio committees invites me as they are holding me accountable. They do oversight over the department that I have been deployed to be the executive authority for,” Malakoane added.
