The newly constructed Trompsburg Hospital outside Trompsburg in the Free State is still falls under the Department of Public Works.
Social Services committee chairperson in the provincial legislature Lucy Mapena, explained that it is one of the main reasons why the hospital is still not opened. She was speaking during the committee’s hospital sight visit on Thursday in Trompsburg. The hospital was built in 2011 for the Xhariep Municipality District and was expected to officially be opened last year September by then MEC of Public Works Sisi Mabe.
Mapena said the handing over of the hospital is a concerning issue and they need to know how long it will take. She said the Department of Public Works still has to officially handover the hospital to the Department of Health.
“We didn’t get the relevant person to respond to some of the questions, hence we have rescheduled the meeting. The only relevant person who was there was the contractor. The issue around the finances and other important issues, the committee didn’t get the relevant people,” she said.
Mapena said they have rescheduled to meet with relevant stakeholders who will provide them with answers, so that the department of health can take over and open the hospital.
