Trompsburg Hospital remains un-operational

THANDI XABA

Speaking about new projects in the provincial Department of Health Free State Public Servants Association’s(PSA) Gerhard Koorts says it’s unfortunate that Trompsberg Hospital which was due to be up-and-running in 2014 still remains un-operational.

The hospital which is supposed to be operating is not based on lack of equipment among other hiccups. "The unfortunate part is the current situation at Trompsberg Hospital, which at this current point is supposed to be operating but it is not, and this is could be based on lack of equipment, and staff has to be relocated, it nice to say you make these provision for our communities that are in dire need but I have my reservations as to whether it is a well planned action to just open a hospital in a region and say will stock it with what is needed," says Koorts.

He adds if there was money or man-power it would work. "We are struggling to get doctors appointed now so how will you get doctorS to move or professional nurse or physios to move to those areas," he adds.

Courant has followed stories on the construction of the hospital which was built in 2011.

The Department of Public Works was set to officially hand-over and open the hospital in September 2013 which never took place. Koorts adds no-one has been able to provide answers on the future of the sate-of-the-art building.
