A 24-year alleged kidnapper, Fannie Mathebula, is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein regional court today. He stands accused of allegedly kidnapping an 8-year old girl from Glen, just outside the city, two months ago.
He appeared briefly on Wednesday, when he was referred to undergo a 30-day mental observation.
Mathebula’s lawyer, Gideon Hanekom, told OFM News that he referred Mathebula for the observation.
He wouldn’t go into detail as to why he recommended this, but said that he believes it’s in the best interest of his client.
It’s not yet clear when the observation will start, and at which institution Mathebula will be admitted. More information on the observation is expected to emerge in court today.
Mathebula has, meanwhile, been kept in police custody.
