Top chess players shine at tournament

The atmosphere was electrifying at Motheo TVET College Hillside hall when about 22 senior and junior players showcased their talents by competing in the annual winter open chess tournament.
The competition, powered by Free State Chess League, has been growing by leaps and bounds and the event was a clear indication of this. Even players who didn’t register to play due to financial constraints came in numbers to cheer on the competitors on the day.
Event coordinator, Galaletsang Mojatau, was overjoyed by what she witnessed. “For the past few years the tournament was well supported by community members, however, this year’s event is an exception. We would like to thank the community for their unwavering support, encouraging players to put more effort into the game,” said Majoatau.
She also conveyed a message of gratitude to the Free State Chess League for their support. The top three players awarded were Thembani Manaba in first place, Luyanda Mashebini in second place and Mojalefa Tlaitlai in third place. – LEBAKENG NKABI
