Toddler dies in Harrismith crash

A young child has died and at least 15 people have been injured after a truck collided with a bakkie on the N3 at Harrismith in the Free State, Friday evening.

According to the Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, a toddler was declared dead at the scene, while other people were stabilised and transported to various hospitals for further medical care.

Mathe says reports from the scene indicate that the truck rear ended the bakkie and it overturned.

“When we arrived on scene we found that there was a total of ten adults and six children all between the ages of a year and seven years of age. There was a total of ten adults and six children. We can confirm that a total of 15 people sustained serious to moderate injuries.”

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
