• 1992: In SA’s first ever Fifa sanctioned match the Bafana Bafana, SA soccer team, beats Cameroon 1-0 in an international friendly game in Durban, the first international game in more than three decades.
• 2007: SABC Sport reporter Maseru Koaho, known for his expertise in football and boxing reporting, is killed in a car crash on the N12 towards Potchefstroom.
• 1978: 32nd NBA Championship: Wash Bullets beat Sea Supersonics, 4 games to 3.
• 1985: Boris Becker (17) of West Germany beats Kevin Curren of SA on Wimbledon and becomes the youngest ever tennis champion.
