• 2007: International Cricket Council president Percy Sonn (57) dies in a Cape Town hospital of complications after surgery. He served as vice-president on the South African Cricket Board and was president of the new United Cricket Board of South Africa for three years until 2003.
• 1966: Eric Leckner, NBA center (Detroit Pistons) is born.
• 1990: Pat Bradley wins LPGA Corning Golf Classic.
• 1957: Duncan Goodhew, swimmer is born.
