• 1916: Henriette Roosenburg, Dutch journalist is born (d. 1972).
• 1975: Lauryn Hill, South Orange New Jersey, American singer-songwriter (The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill) is born.
• 1994: Michael Jackson (35) weds Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie Presley (26) in La Romana, Dominican Republic.

• 1944: C M Francois, cricketer (WWII, 252 runs in 5 Tests for South Africa), dies.
• 2002: Mamo Wolde, Ethiopian runner (b. 1932)
• 1966: Zola Budd, former SA athlete and World Record holder, is born.
