• 1933: First TV boxing match – Archie Sexton & Laurie Raiteri in London.
• 1862: The first rugby match in SA takes place at the Green Point common, Cape Town, between a military and civilian team.
• 1997: The SA rugby team beats Australia 61-22 in the Tri-Nations championship in Pretoria.
• 1941: Gloria Ehret, LPGA golfer is born.
