Lady Mary Bailey, the first pilot to complete a to and fro trip between London and Cape Town, died in Cape Town on 29 August 1960.
She was the first woman to fly over the Irish Sea and was already a mother of five children when she achieved this.
Bailey went on to study navigation and was awarded a blind-flying certificate, she also became the first woman to achieve this.
She won numerous flying competitions before her passing.
