Three sentenced for kidnapping, murder and robbery

The Thaba Nchu Regional Court has sentenced three African males for murder, kidnapping and robbery. The three accused are 24-year-old Katleho Tlhabatlhabane,  24-year-old Kgosiame Letebele and 29-year-old Lebogang Chris Mmulutsi from Thaba Nchu.

On 30 April 2016 at about 07:00 the body of 30-year-old Thabang Kobo was found floating in a dam at Feloane Trust, near Thaba Nchu by a community member. Upon investigation, Warrant Officer Lawrence Lesala who headed the case found that the deceased was from Bloemfontein and that he was first assaulted before being put into a car boot and then taken to Thaba Nchu where he was further assaulted by the three accused.

The three accused then tied the deceased’s feet, put a rock on top of his body and threw him into the dam to ensure that his budy submerges. The trio were arrested on 23 June 2016 and charged with murder, kidnapping and robbery.

According to the accused Katleho Tlhabatlhaba, the deceased allegedly sold him a site for R20 000 but he never received the site nor got his money back. That is when he went out of his way to find the other two accused to help him carry out the vicious attack.

Katlego Tlhabatlhaba was sentenced to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for murder and five years’ for kidnapping, Lebogang Chris Mmulutsi sentenced to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for murder, five years’ for kidnapping and ten years’ for robbery and Gosiame Letebele sentenced to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for murder and five years’ for kidnapping.

Brigadier Khothatso Ramokotjo, Cluster Commander of Selosesha applauded the investigating officer for being able to convict the trio and sentencing through using a state witness who was prepared to give evidence before Thaba Nchu Magistrates’ Court.
