Three SAPS members from Police Emergency Services, Warrant Officer Mosina, Warrant Officer Wagter and Constable Mosina appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate court on Tuesday, 28 February 2017 after they were arrested on Sunday 26 February 2017 at about 18:10.
This comes after a complainant alleged that he was stopped by uniform members on Sunday morning for driving a motor bike without number plates. He was allegedly told by members that he will not get a fine, but they will come to his house later during the day to collect money from him.
They allegedly agreed on the amount of R100. A trap was set and they were arrested after the money (R100) was handed over to them by the complainant.
They were released on bail and the case has been postponed to the 22 March 2017 for further investigation and for a decision by the Director of Public Prosecution.
“This should send a strong message to members that corruption will not be tolerated in the service, no matter how little the incident might seem. Members are expected to uphold the law at all times”, said Lieutenant General Lebeoana Tsumane.
