Three “Rambo Squad” members in court today

SABRINA DEAN – Three constables from the so-called Rambo Squad are scheduled to appear in the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on various assault charges today.
Independent Police Investigations Directorate spokesperson Moses Dlamini says three constables from Ficksburg police station were arrested yesterday and not nine as claimed in other media reports. He says they face two counts of common assault and three of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
“The policemen are part of the so-called Rambo squad. We launched an investigation and uncovered sufficient evidence to warrant the arrest of the police officers,” he says.
Dlamini says the IPID launched the investigation after it received complaints from members of the community about alleged assaults committed by police officers. He says investigations are still underway and they cannot at this stage rule out the possibility of further arrests.
