Three FS artists get Sama nods

Three artists from the Free State have received South African Music Award (Sama) nominations, putting our music on the map. The Samas are the Recording Industry of South Africa’s music industry awards, established in 1995.

Gospel sensation, Teboho Moloi, who has been adored by gospel fans around the country, has been nominated in the Best Traditional Faith album category for his latest album titled Nkutlwele Bohloko.

Afrikaans music legend, Coenie de Villers, is another Free State artist proudly flying the flag of the province with pride. De Villers has been nominated in the category, Beste Kontemporêre Musiek Album for his album titled Emoji.

Bloemfontein-born independent artist, Taylor K, whose real name is Katleho Makatsa has been nominated in the Best Kwaito Album category for his album Paper Chase.

“We are proud to have artists of this caliber in our province. These artists have demonstrated that indeed the Free State province is a home of champions and we are also confident that they will bring accolades home,” said MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mathabo Leeto.

The 23rd edition of the Samas will be celebrating 23 years of existence and recognizing South African music and talent respectively. The 23rd Sama ceremony will be held in Sun City on  26 & 27 May 2017.
