Three arrested for assault on Mangaung teacher

Three suspects, two adults and a learner, were arrested on Thursday, 3 February, on charges of malicious damage to property as well as common assault on a teacher at the Setjhaba Se Maketse Combined School in Botshabelo, outside Bloemfontein.

According to a police statement, it is alleged that the learner had some problems in the teacher’s class earlier that day, and the parents were called to the school. The father of the learner and another female arrived at the school and confronted the teacher when he walked out of the class.

“The three attacked the teacher and the schools laptop fell. A case of common assault with an additional charge of malicious damage to property was opened at Botshabelo Police Station,” said the police.

Both adults spent the night in police custody. The learner was released under a guardian’s supervision according to Child Justice Act 75 of 2008. The three suspects will appear in the Botshabelo Magistrate Court later today.
