On 8 March, at about 20:45, the Bloemfontein Flying Squad received information about a truck from Gauteng, driving on the N1 towards Bloemfontein, possibly transporting drugs.
The truck was pulled over at the Verkeerdevlei Toll Plaza by the flying squad. Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli confirmed that the 59-year-old driver and two other passengers were arrested after 14 boxes containing Khat, worth an estimated value of R2.4 million, was discovered in the cabin.
“The 59-year-old and his two passengers, aged 38, were arrested. A 4-year-old that was travelling with them was taken to a place of safety,” said Kareli.
The three suspects will appear in court on charges related to dealing and possession of narcotics.
