The alleged mastermind behind the murder of an elderly couple on a farm in Parys earlier this year will make his first appearance in the town’s Magistrate’s court today.
Free State police spokesperson Peter Kareli says the 48-year-old suspect was apprehended in Johannesburg on Saturday morning. He is the husband of one of the other suspects, Mmaditaba Mokubung, who was arrested along with a co-accused, Ezekiel Mnguni, shortly after the murders.
"We was actually traced by our Sasolburg Organized Crime Unit and they made an arrest. He’s the kingpin and i think we’ll hear on Monday that he pleaded against the ones who did all hte murders" says Karelli.
Meanwhile, Mnguni and Mokubung are due in the Parys Magistrate’s court again on March 20th after being denied bail earlier this month. The three are accused of killing Ernest and Annatjie van Rooyen on 15 January on the farm Somerset. Annatjie’s body was found in a freezer in a tuckshop on the farm.
