With so much happening at the moment, it is so easy for anyone to get lost in the noise and ignore their mental well-being. Potholes, price hikes, and protests – just to name a few issues that cause anxiety. Bloemfontein Courant spoke to the owner of a local yoga studio to find out about the importance of mindfulness in a busy city like Bloemfontein.

“Mindfulness is to be present in every moment, being aware of the things around you that could have either a positive or negative effect on you. This will allow us to create a calmer more peaceful city for all of us to live in,” Duola Kridiotis, the humble owner of Live Love Yoga Studio explained. She said the practice of yoga teaches one self-love, patience, and commitment.

“Meditation, or just taking a few minutes out of your day to quieten your mind, will lower your blood pressure, decrease your stress levels, and allow you to cope with the stressful lives we lead.” Her journey in yoga started in 2017 when she was looking for a change in her lifestyle. “I did my formal training through the Trifocus Academy and thereafter I started my studio in November 2022. We concentrate on the classical yoga style of yoga looking at the connection between mind, body, and soul,” she said.

According to Kridiotis, the majority of the challenges people face daily are beyond their control and the support that can be provided through yoga can help carry anyone through a difficult time.

“We believe in living a mindful life. By this we mean we are mindful of everything we put into our bodies, either by the way of food, sight, or sound. A good way to start your day is 5 to 15 minutes of ‘me time’ – a Time to sit peacefully with your eyes closed to quieten your thoughts. Focus on your breathing when in a stressful situation, by taking a few slow deep inhales and exhales.” Join Kridiotis for a few yoga classes to see how you can be in control of your well-being with the art of mindfulness at 52 Deale Road.

“Namaste (my soul honours your soul, as we are one)
